About Ellis Island Hotel
The Ellis Island Hotel is a historic hotel located on Ellis Island in New York Harbor. The hotel is situated within the Statue of Liberty National Monument and is operated by the National Park Service. The hotel was originally built in 1892 as part of the immigrants’ hospital complex on the island. It operated as a hospital until 1930, when it was converted into a dormitory for U.S. Navy personnel stationed at the nearby Governors Island. In 1977, the Ellis Island Hotel was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and became a National Historic Landmark. In 1984, the hotel was reopened to the public after undergoing extensive renovation. The Ellis Island Hotel features two restaurants, a bar, and a coffee shop. The hotel also offers a variety of tours and educational programs about Ellis Island and its history.
