Airbus A319

Full Details & Information Airbus A319

The Airbus A319 is a member of the Airbus A320 family which is a short- to medium-range, narrow-bodied, commercial passenger aircraft. It is a shortened-fuselage variant of the A320 family of aircraft that entered the market with Swissair in 1996. The A319s are assembled in Hamburg, and Tianjin, China, and continue to prove their versatility.

Advantages Of Airbus A319 Jet

The A319 is a twin-engine carrier that can carry 110 to 160 passengers with a maximum take-off to landing range of 3,700 nmi (6,900 km). The aircraft shares a common type rating as that of the other Airbus A320 variants which allows pilots with the same certification to fly all A320 aircraft without the need for any further training. The A320 family pioneered the use of electronic interface through fly-by-wire flight control systems (FWB) and side-stick controls.

The A319 has the same “optimized cabin cross-section” as that of its A320s peers which makes it the widest single-aisle fuselage in the market. The wider space allows for top-of-the-range comfort with generous seat width, and extra-wide aisle for quicker turnarounds.

Net benefits are lesser consumption of fuel, lower noise, lesser engine thrust, and a state of the art cockpit.

Types Of Private & Corporate Jet Airbus A319

Variants

A319CJ

The A319CJ (rebranded ACJ319) or the Airbus Corporate Jet incorporates up to 6 additional removable tanks installed in the cargo to give it a long range of 12,500 km (with 8 passengers on board). During a test, the manufacturer even sent the jet on a record flight of 16 hours and 10 minutes which caught the eye of wealthy private customers and governments.

With popular features such as the removable extra tanks and corporate cabin, it can be reconfigured as a standard A319. It is also powered by the same engine types as the A320. Another modularized cabin version named “Elegance” is also available at lower cost and ease of configuration. The A319CJ has a total seating capacity of 39 passengers but can be outfitted according to customer’s preference.

ACJ serves as a presidential, business, or official aircraft of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Italy, Germany, Malaysia, Slovakia, Turkey, Thailand, Ukraine, and Venezuela.

A319LR

The A319LR or the longer-range version of the A319 comes with an increased capacity of flying 4,500 nautical miles (8,300 km). Qatar Airways was the launch customer with two A319-100LR. It is also flown by PrivatAir which received two A319LRs in 2003, and Eurofly also acquired two in 2005

A319neo

The A319neo is a part of A320neo family 2010 and the suffix “neo” meaning “New Engine Option” which is an upgrade from the original A319, now referred to as A319ceo, or the “Current Engine Option”.

The A319neo comes with improved features like aerodynamic refinements, curved winglets (sharklets) on a 1.7m wider wingspan, weight savings, modern cabin with larger hand luggage spaces, improved air purification system, and a choice of 2 engines – the Pratt & Whitney PW1100G or the CFM LEAP-1A.

These improvements are predicted to provide better mileage of approx 500 nautical miles, about 15% lower fuel consumption, 8% lower operating costs, reduced noise, and reduced nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions as compared to the A320 series.

However, this is the least popular variant of the Airbus A320neo family with only 55 aircraft orders placed as of 31 January 2019, compared with 4,179 for A320neo and 2,292 for the A321neo.

A319 MPA

The Airbus A319 MPA or the “Maritime Patrol Aircraft” is a military derivative of the Airbus A319 which is developed by Airbus Defense and Space to compete against the Boeing P-8 Poseidon.

Operations

A total of 1,480 Airbus A319 aircraft have been delivered as of August 2019 out of which 1,246 Airbus A319 were in service with 108 operators. American Airlines is the largest operator of the Airbus A319 in the year 2019, operating 131 aircraft followed by EasyJet that engages a fleet of 125 A319.

The A319 is the most popular variant of the Airbus A320 family which is mainly preferred by governments, corporate and private customers with 75 of these aircraft in operation in these capacities as of 2019.

Current Orders

At the end of July 2019, the European aircraft manufacturer had received orders for 36 A319 Neo aircraft out of which 30 were from some undisclosed customers, including two from Air Côte d’Ivoire and 3 from government or private sources. In July a fourth aircraft was added in the last category and in August the first one was delivered to the German charter company K5 Aviation.

Accidents and Incidences

12 aviation accidents and incidents been recorded for the Airbus A319 including two hull-loss accidents. There haven’t been any fatal accidents recorded involving A319 as of October 2019.
